Nefyn 2 Holywell 2
D.S PEN 33
PUGH 70
Having achieved an excellent result in midweek at Llandudno Junction Nefyn were very hopeful of taking all three points at home to the wellmen of Holywell
Unfortunately for the penwaig they didn't realise that the match started at 2-30 as they hardly played or got into their ryrhym in the opening half hour
On 15 mins Holywell took the lead following a run down the left wing by Steven Thomas he passed to Wayne Edwards who chipped advancing keeper Aikman to make 1-0.
This was very much a lackluster match but on 33 mins Nefyn were back on level terms as Robert Jones was brought down for a pen the third time he has gained a pen for Nefyn this season and without regular penalty taker Caron Williams up stepped m.om. Dylan Sion to convert the kick .
Nefyn suffered a setback as keeper Aikman needed treatment for a groin injury and on 41 mins Holywell took the lead as they scored direct from a corner from Ryan Davies a fit Aikman would have dealt with it easily
h.t.2-1
Nefyn had to reshuffle the team at h.t with keeper Aikman unable to continue in goal sub Brian Mathews recalled as cover up front found himself in between the sticks for the second half and to his credit never let the side down .
He was called into action on 55 mins as a Paul Williams shot was comfortably taken by Mathews, he was also called upon mins later as a free kick went straight to him though Mathews wil claim that his positioning made it look easier .
After 65 mins Nefyn at last realised that there was still some hope to gain something from the match and began an onslaught on the Holywell goal they seemed to have hit a purple patch and on 70 mins scored an excellent goal as Dylan Sion took the ball down the right wing he crossed for a spectacular diving header from John Pugh giving keeper David Walsh no chance to make it 2-2 , Nefyn looked as though they could pull this match out of the fire and kept going forward searching for the winner Holywell were now hanging on for the first time in the match and Nefyn , almost got the winner as from a Carwyn Williams free kick Aled Williams rose above everybody to thunder a header on target but keeper Walsh was equal to it.
Not to be outdone Mathews in the other goal went down low at his near post to prevent Wayne Edwards add to his total ,Mathews was called into action once again to tip a long drive over , with time running out Nefyn gained a free kick 30 yds out but they almost shot themselves in the foot as the quickly taken kick went straight to a Holywell player and only a strong tackle from Tom Macaully prevented what could have been the winner for the wellmen;
All in all it was a fair result with both teams wining each half
The only concern for next sat is will Aikman be fit but Nefyn have two experienced keepers
in Mathew Parry and Dylan Hughes as cover the last time that Mathew played for Nefyn was at Cefn Druids in a welsh cup match and it is 7 years since Dylan last played for the first team
