A hard fought battle as expected in this local derby. Nefyn started nervously against a very experienced and physical Trefor side, this nervousness understandable considering it was the Reserves first competitive game of the season with the average age of the side in the early twenties.
20 minutes passed without either keeper being tested. Soon after Nefyn lost the ball on the edge of the area and the ball was fed through to young Kyle Davies, Trefor striker who made no mistake with the finish. Nefyn appealed for offside but he looked onside. Nefyn gradually improved as the half progressed and Nefyns set pieces were a problem for Trefor with several half chances being created. On 25 minutes a through ball to Brian had the Trefor back four in all sorts of problems and Brians pace took him away and when through on goal he was brough down by the Trefor centrehalf. A straight forward red card was shown.
Set pieces remained Nefyns best weapon and on 35 minutes a free kick by Ifan caused havoc in the Trefor backline and Aled was on hand to smash in a deserved equaliser. Score at half time 1-1.
The start of the second half again was fairly flat with no real chances created. Things gradually improved and Ifan was unluckly with a 30 yard effort that hit the crossbar then came off the keeper for a corner kick. Another effort was cleared off the line by a Trefor defender. Trefor rarely threatened but Alun was always on his guard when called upon.
Some substitutions were made by Nefyn to try and change things and the tempo of the game improved slightly. The winner came on 80 minutes, a knock down found its way to Brian with his back to goal and he produced an excellent overhead finish for the 3 points.
Trefor tried to push but they rarely threated but Nefyn were pleased to hear the final score and claim the victory.
The most pleasing thing was the result having not played particularly well, that's a good sign. With the introduction of a young reserve squad, its very pleasing to start the season with a win, this now needs to be following up with another at home to Llandudno 147 on saturday.
