Bethesda 2 Nefyn 1
Battling Nefyn went down at Bethesda due to a couple of disastrous decision by the officials in this match .
Going to Meurig Park is always difficult with your strongest side but when you have 5 players from the previous sat missing for one reason or another it was going to be even harder,
The home side took the lead as early as the 5min as a through ball found the league top scorer Gareth Davies who calmly slotted the ball home from 10 yds..
Bethesda had plenty of early possession and their two up front of Gareth Davies and Mike Lundstrum always looked a threat though .the home side did not have everything their own way as a couple of attempts by Llyr AP Gruffydd went over .
On 18mins only a saving tackle by Robert Chidley on Mike Lundstrum saved the day it was Chidley's first full match since 5 years .and after this performance will not have to wait to long for the next
On 26 mins Nefyn went close after Arwel Evans found AP Gruffydd but his attempted header went over .
With 30 mins gone came the first diabolical offside decision or the lack of it as Gareth Davies got past John Jones he crossed inside the 6yd area to Lundstrum who was at least 2 yards off side as he stood 3 yds out and tapped the ball in (even the Bethesda bench said he was well off side)
Moments later a high tackle from behind on Llyr APGruffydd should have been a straight red the ref Peter Kewley only awarded a free kick no card claiming he did not see the incident ( why give a foul then if he didn't see it?)
From then on one felt that it wasn't going to be Nefyn's day with the officials
With 35 mins gone the home side should have increased their lead as Gareth Davies missed an easy chance from 10 yds looping the the ball over ,almost on h.t Nefyn had another lucky escape following a corner as Lundstrum headed the ball towards goal only to see Chidley head the ball off the line .
The second half was much an evener contest with Nefyn playing neat football with mom Peter Griffiths leading the line superbly a player that gives 100% effort on the pitch .
The match was played mainly from box to box but on 70 mins Nefyn got a life line as a quickly taken free kick from Caron Williams found Peter Griffiths who took the ball down the left before crossing where Llion Jones had raced in to stroke the ball from 8 yds into the net for his first ever senior goal
The visitors now seemed on top and on 80 mins Peter Griffiths was through on goal 20 yds out but was brought down by the last defender which should have warranted a straight red no one in the ground could belive the refs decision a free kick no card of any colour THE RULE STATES A RED CARD SHOULD BE ISSUED FOR DENYING AN OBVIOUS GOALSCORING OPPORTUNITY TO AN OPPONENT MOVING TOWARDS THE PLAYER'S GOAL BY AN OFFENCE PUNISHABLE BY A FREE KICK OR PENALTY (if he was through on goal is that not a goal scoring opportunity)
Try as hard as they did Nefyn could not find the equalizer and it was only a point blank save by Nefyn keeper Ellis that kept the score to two in the very last min ,
Though Bethesda had plenty of chances to win this match by a bigger margin in the first half Nefyn battled hard during the second period and matched the home side all the way with their effort and only the match officials let them down for a well earned share of the points
A statment from the manager regarding late withdrawls will follow in all 15 players were unavailable for this match
